February 3, 2018 in Champigny took place the patronage of the first Grand Paris Express’ tunnel-boring machines. A decisive step in the progress of the new metro, including line 15 South, will connect Pont de Sèvres to Noisy - Champs.

On the construction site, located in the departmental park Plateau, a large-scale technical operation was to lower the cutting wheel of the machine in the basement. This intervention, which mobilizes the largest crane in Europe, symbolically marks the beginning of the digging of the first tunnel of the new metro. Manufactured in the Herrenknecht factory in Schwanau, Germany, this "factory train", measuring more than 100 meters long and 10 meters wide, is growing at a rate of 12 meters per day. At the end thirty tunnel boring machines will dig the 170 km underground subway. A record in Europe.

Thanks to the 4,000 participants who came to participate in this festive and popular gathering entitled KM3: symbol of the kilometers to cross until the opening of the metro network.
